At Trinity we have a large entrance hall for you and your child to wait in until your session starts or where you can wait to collect your child at the end of their session. Notice boards with official information, a daily message board and information board showing specific activities offered for the week together with a brief note of what the children actually did during the session can be found in the entrance hall. There is limited space for you to leave a buggy as we also use this area to store our evacuation buggies for use in an emergency.
At Trinity we are blessed with a large playroom for the over 2's. This allows us to have a play space set up for children aged approximately 2 to 3 (Bunnies) with equipment selected by their Family Group Leader. They are encouraged to help choose activities but do not have free access to a large variety of equipment until they are ready for a wider choice. There is an area designated to role play and painting which is a space shared by Bunnies and Sheep. The Sheep are our 3 to 5's. There is also an indoor area designated to physical play which is accessible by both Family Groups. The larger part of the playroom is divided into five main sections, table top area, floor play area, craft and drawing tables and book corner. The children can access any tray with a picture and are encouraged to choose their activities. (Staff will work with children at their chosen activity encouraging and offering support, talking to them as they explore, helping children to think about what they are doing, what they need or helping them to plan ahead.)
This pictures shows our creative area consisting of role play with a kitchen, dressing area and office table. There is also a Craft table with trolley allowing children to select their own craft materials. We have a painting easel in this area with sink to allow children to wash their own hands if they get dirty. Finally there is also a table near the kitchen role play area for play dough or other malleable material to be used.
At Roundabout we firmly believe that children learn best in an atmosphere where they feel in control of their own learning and have access to a variety of resources and play equipment. We consider play is learning and learning should be fun. We encourage children to access play both inside and out and where possible allow children to flow freely between our indoor and outdoor spaces. Children are actively encouraged to request outdoor play in all weathers and we encourage them to dress in an appropriate way to protect them from the elements. The Upper Room is a big empty hall where the children can run and let off some steam when the need arises. This hall is used by other users at various times during the week, but when available we can use it for gross physical activities which may include, balls, parachute, skate boards, bats, bean bags, running games, circle games, music and movement and much much more. It is particularly useful in the wet winter months when outdoor physical activity could get a little muddy.
We have a physical area inside which is usually set up with a climbing frame but could also be used balancing, hoops, bean bags or music and movement.
The front garden area is presently a grassed area (a garden project to transform the garden is underway). The children have a variety of objects available to use to make climbing or role play props - for example; Tyres, mats, pieces of material, guttering and wooden poles. There are areas to sit and read stories and areas to plant and discover garden creatures. There are also two builders trays for sand play and a large variety of sand toys available. Water trays and troughs with tubes, smaller buckets and a variety of pouring equipment are stored ready for use in the back garden storage area. In the summer months children are protected from the sun by the use of parasols and wearing hats. The children are allowed to bring out equipment from inside. The children are encouraged to learn how to take care of the garden environment; cutting grass and picking up leaves and putting them into the compost bin along with our fruit and vegetable waste from the snack table. The resulting compost is used to grow plants or fruits and vegetables.
The picture below shows the area used for Breakfast, Lunch and Tea. Small groups of children eat together with an adult at the table. Younger children share the same dining area seated in high chairs with a safety harness. This area also doubles as a table top work area for activities such as tray puzzles and games. These activities are located in trays in the trolleys around the walls. Children have free access to trays with pictures and request adult help to access trays with words only. These trays contain activities that require adult supervision.
Welcome to Roundabout Christian Preschool's bunny room. This is where children from the age of 3 months to 3 years are based. We aim to provide a safe, homely atmosphere where children can feel safe, secure and happy whilst encouraging them to explore and grow in confidence, learning skills that will benefit them through the early stages of learning. We work to a low staff ratio which encourages safe, loving relationships and where strong bonds can be formed between staff and children. We have consistent staff in this area in order to support these important relationships.
The Bunnies Room provides a safe area for younger children who may not be walking yet to enjoy some space away from the toddlers which also doubles up as a comfy sleeping area. We have a choice of travel cots, buggies, mattress' and beanbags for the children to choose from. All children have clean sheets and blankets designated to them which are washed on a weekly basis. We have blackout blinds and the doors can be shut to provide a quiet area. Although this area is provided, younger children still have full use of the whole playroom whilst remaining safe by the use of baby chairs, bumbo seats etc.
The Bunnies Room comes equipped with its own toddler bathroom with child height sinks and toilets and a changing station. This helps children feel safe and gives them confidence when learning to toilet train and do things themselves. Full time children store their nappies, wipes and creams in the bathroom up on selves. Each child has their own flannel on a named peg.
Toys are placed along the alleyway to encourage children along. The alleyway opens up into the main playroom where a section is penned off for rising twos.
This is an extension of the Bunnies room where children who are learning to explore can venture into the main playroom. Here they can experience the hustle and bustle whilst still feeling safe through the security of the playpen. In here they will have access to more challenging activities whilst still having monitored access to items such as scissors and glue. This space allows children to decide for themselves when they are ready to move up to the next stage.
We also have a Cafe on site where you can get a cup of coffee and chat to other parents or friends or perhaps get a spot of lunch. Children are very welcome.
